So Ashley Madison Is Real

Uhhh What??? People actually pay someone to find them a candidate with which to have an affair? Whoa! Shut the Front Door! You mean to tell me even cheating has gone high tech?

Let me start by saying I in no wise support, endorse or understand anything about this website as it is definitely a trick of the enemy working to destroy the sanctity of marriage. With that said I’ll continue. I heard a guy say:

“Ashley Madison has over 37 million users yet gay marriage is the problem”

And unfortunately I had to agree with him. Christians argue fuss and fight over the rights for gay marriage but there’s little or no outcry about websites of this caliber. I can’t help but wonder how many of those 37 million are Bible toting Christians in stealth mode (or so they think). Must we be reminded “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3, King James Version)? That means even behind that computer screen.

This post is by no means meant to berate Christians or this despicable website. It is however meant to show how easy it is to slip into a compromising position before you have time to catch yourself. I often focus on the workplace romance and the situations where a platonic relationship accidentally goes non-platonic (couldn’t think of the word but I’m sure you get the point). Or even that scenario where the two of you are working on the church carnival and spending long hours together talking, stressing and planning. Then when the carnival is over you find yourself longing for that time again, or worse, you actually make that time despite both of you being married to someone else. Oh and trust, these situations happen every day. The key to them occurring however is the fact that for the most part, they start out innocently.

When you sign up for an Ashley Madison account, you know exactly what you are doing and you have pretty much already had the affair over and over again in your mind. This means the deed is pretty much done. “For as he thinks in his heart so is he” (Proverbs 23:7a, King James Version).

The slogan for this website is “Life is short. Have an affair.” They even go as far as to say “Join Free & change your life today”.

They forget to mention that your life can be shortened even the more by having an affair (especially if your wife is anything like me). They also forget to mention that the change you’re making is never positive. Yes, you may get the high of a dangerous liaison, but what happens after that? As we all know “whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light” (Luke 12:3a, New King James Version), so what happens when this is brought to light? Yes your internet search may be in secret, your perusal of that website may be in secret, but that affair for which you seek: whether 1 day, 1 week, 1 or 10 years, it will come to light. The question is: who are the innocent bystanders that become the casualties in this situation? The wife? The husband? The children? The extended family and friends? Yes all of them will be affected by your affair whether you’re willing to admit it or not.

My advice: Take the money you plan to spend on a disgraceful website like this and plan some date nights, or better yet, get some counseling for you individually and then some marriage counseling to teach you to appreciate the spouse you’ve been blessed with. Prayer and studying what the Word says about marriage is definitely a great plan as well. All of this together is the only way to heal the broken places in your relationship that would allow you to sink to this low.
